White Boards like interactive white boards are transforming classrooms into vibrant, welcoming environments where students are granted the freedom to learn like they think and express their own new innovative ideas in this modern technology era.

White Boards can be directly connect to a Computer/Laptop and Projection System acts, as a digitally interactive white board where one does not needs any marker to write or highlight any information. Using a finger, one can work naturally at the Board to take notes and highlight important and desired information. Whenever you meet, teach, train or present, the Board helps your group save your precious time, increase interactivity within your group members and improve communication that leads to emergence of modern world.

You can also control all the computer functions from the Board itself and thus no need to stand near your Computer while presenting, teaching or collaborating something to students. Besides this one can choose a number of colors to present the information and there is no limitation on the colors of markers one have.

The Smart Board is an interactive whiteboard that make use of touch detection for user input. This includes scrolling, right mouse-click in the same way normal PC input devices, such as a mouse or keyboard, detect input. The Smart Board interactive whiteboard typically comes with four pens, which use digital ink and replace traditional whiteboard markers. Most Smart Board interactive whiteboards register only one touch at a time. Some dual-touch Smart Board interactive whiteboard accepts two simultaneous touches.

A Smart Board Interactive Whiteboard may also be used in non-projected mode (without using a projector), but using them with projector is what making Classroom Smart and interactive. We can use a whiteboard in projected mode with having three main components:
  • §  Computer System
  • §  Digital Projector
  • §  SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard

All these three components work together to make an Interactive Smart Classroom as

The Smart Board uses DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology to detect and respond to touch interactions on the surface of interactive whiteboards. This camera-based touch technology for interactive whiteboards and interactive displays uses digital cameras and proprietary software and firmware to detect finger or pen contact with the screen.

With this new generation digital smartboard users can easily and interactively engage themselves in drawing diagrams, opening images and videos, exploring internet or illustrate their points by writing directly on it and express them in an interactive manner that will also facilitate the viewers.

Today, the SMART Boards is used to teach over 18 million students and participants in more than 600,000 classrooms in more than 100 countries around the whole world. The interactive nature of the Smart Boards provides many practical uses for the classroom learning and education. Now one can be able to show the presentation with high quality and desired dimensions that will increase level of communication and education standard also. Document Cameras: Relief from Overhead Projectors

Document Cameras are nothing but the capturing devices to display an object or number of objects in front of audience. Document cameras are able to magnify the images of actual 3-D objects and transparencies. Document cameras were first developed to meet the rising demand for the ability to project and present original documents, objects directly without the usage of overhead projector. Document cameras are also known with different names and that are image presenters, visual presenters, digital visualizers, digital overheads and docucams. Document cameras are high resolution web cams which are to be mounted on arms so as to facilitate their placement over a page and all the objects can be displayed through it infact most of the objects are need to be placed under the camera only. Document cameras are the ones which take the picture and in turn produce a live picture via projector.

Now a days, Document cameras are replacing overhead projectors which were used earlier for the same very purpose. Due to having so many features like zoom a document camera can zero in on small print in books and can even project printed pages like transparencies. Document camera is an asset to classroom learning because it does not require room to be dark. The other key feature of document camera is that it can also send video signals to a computer via USB cable and at times it can even connected to an interactive whiteboard instead of a standard screen. Now most of the document cameras are to be provided with an accessory so that it can be used with a microscope.

Document camera is a combination of several different technologies. The quality of the recorded image is dependent on the primary components, which are optics, camera, lighting system and motherboard. Today Document cameras are available with HDMI output, Audio/Video recording and playback is also possible, and some of them are also using high-speed WIFI technology to eliminate the need to wires.

Document cameras are of different types but are broadly categorized into two groups and that are portable and desktop models, ceiling models. Portable and desktop models are nothing but very much similar to that of overhead projectors and it can be used in multiple locations without requiring any prior special installation whereas ceiling models or ceiling mounted document cameras are models which allow much larger objects to display. Ceiling models are basically used to support telepresence systems as it allows the illusion to be created.

Today, document cameras can be seen in almost each and every other classroom it is converting into a great classroom management tool. Its use brings an end to the days of children pushing and shoving to gain a better view of a teacher-demonstrated science experiment. Today teachers can use document camera to display a kitchen timer while the class is working. Document cameras are also an excellent tool for creating “green” school. The major uses of document cameras for classroom are demonstration that is to show the students that how to do the assigned work, Showing math examples, Immediate feedback for displaying student work, Close up detailed observation of objects, Zoom in on reading text and read whole class-helps when pointing out certain topics words and students can follow along, Use lined paper to project onto white board.

PODIUMS – The Victory Platform

Podium is a kind of platform which is basically used for raising the short distance from the surrounding. The word podium has come from a greek word which means foot. Podium is also meant for where the speaker can be put up and important paper or books can also be placed and correct term for it is Lectern only. Both the terms are not identical to each other because one stands on a podium and another behind a lectern.

Podiums are basically used for the honor of top contestants in any of the events. It is to be seen in the events like Olympics, Commonwealth Games or other events similar to that.  In Olympics basically a three level podium is to be used in which the highest level is at the centre holds the space for gold medalist and to their right which is somewhat lower than the middle is for the silver medalist and the third one is which is on the left of middle is lowest platform and provide space for the bronze medalist.

Infact in many of the sports the top three contestants are often referred to as podiums only and in some of the individual sports podium in which it is an official statistic are referred as the number of top three results which a participant or athlete has achieved in the course of a season or his/her career. According to the professor E.R.K.Barney who is a founding director at University of Western Ontario was the one who gave the idea of Podium to honor the athletes while they receive their medals which is now used almost everywhere all over the world to honor the same.

Podiums are used in different forms of motorsport but the function is similar and that is to present the trophies to the top-placed drivers. In an international series, the national anthem of the winning driver, and the winning team or constructor may be played and the flags of the drivers' countries are hoisted above them. Infact now the term has become a parlance in media and that is where a driver is said to be “be heading for a podium finish” or “just missing out on a podium”.

In NASCAR Sprint Cup Series which is the highest level of stock car racing in the United States do not have three-person podium instead of that the winning driver and its team celebrates in the victory lane only. The IRLIndyCar Series does not use a podium at theIndianapolis 500 or the Bombardier Learjet 550 but has a long tradition of the winning driver and team celebrating in victory lane, while Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage has stated that victory lane should be reserved for the winner of the race. However, the series does use a podium at all other races.

Interactive Whiteboard: Future Of Classroom Learning

Interactive Whiteboard: Future of Classroom Learning

Are Interactive Whiteboards really helpful in Classroom Education, Corporate Systems and Broadcasting Studios? A lot more questions are puzzling our minds. So, let just try to find it out….

An interactive display which connects a computer to the projector is widely known as an interactive whiteboard (IWB). An interactive whiteboard is a combination of computer and projector where projector projects the desktop over the board’s surface where operator controls it by the help of pen, finger, or other device. This is just a kind of board which is required to be mounted over a wall or floor stand. It is widely used in classrooms for running software which is to be loaded onto the connected PC such as web browsers or proprietary software, capturing notes written on a graphic tablet connected to the whiteboard, OCR software to translate cursive writing on a graphics tablet into text, audience response system so that presenters can poll, conduct quizzes, capturing feedback onto the whiteboard.

According to market research by Future source Consultancy it was confirmed that interactive whiteboard industry was expected to reach sales of US$ 1 Billion worldwide by 2008 and by 2011; one of every seven classroom in world will feature interactive whiteboard.

This device is basically connected to a computer via USB or port cable or Bluetooth or even via 2.4 GHz wireless. Interactive whiteboard act as a Human Input Device (HID), like a mouse when it is to be attached to the computer.  The video output is needed to be connected to a digital projector so that images can appear over the whiteboard surface. Now the user can calibrates the whiteboard image via pointer and this is the device which is to be required for the activation of programs, buttons and menus from the whiteboard itself.

All over the Globe there are four common types of operations which used by the users. These are the operations which develops interaction between the user and the content projected on the whiteboard. These are an infrared scan technology, an electromagnetic pen, a resistive touch-based board, a portable ultrasonic pen, and wiimote.

Today, interactive whiteboards are replacing the traditional whiteboards or flipcharts or even media systems. The software supplied with the interactive whiteboard will usually allow the teacher to keep notes and annotations as an electronic file for later distribution either on paper or through a number of electronic formats. Many companies and projects now focus on creating supplemental instructional materials specifically designed for interactive whiteboards. Electro kite out of Boston, MA, for example, will have the first complete curriculum for schools and districts.

But, According to Larry Cuban, education professor emeritus at Stanford University, "There is hardly any research that will show clearly that any interactive whiteboards will improve academic achievement.

Today also interactive whiteboards are still a question mark. Undoubtedly, they are helpful but not everywhere and needs to be discussed some more.
